The Elantra comes standard with an ample number of features, and adding extras such as a rearview camera or Bluetooth can also be done fairly economically. Also fairly rare in a small car is an actually spacious trunk and excellent warranty coverage, as well as what may well be the most distinctive looking design in its class.
There are other considerations, however. The Elantra's attractive, but sloping, roof line creates some headroom issues for taller occupants. It also makes it more difficult to climb into the backseat. In addition, while its 1.8-liter engine gets fairly good gas mileage, its acceleration is perhaps best described as "adequate", lagging that of more lively competitors such as the Mazda 3. Those looking for a bit more gusto may want to consider the Elantra Sport's larger 2.0-liter engine, although its gas mileage performance drops a bit.
Pros:
Strong value given features for the money
Quiet ride
Solid interior construction
Attractive cabin
Spacious trunk
Sharp looks
Good gas milage - a combined EPA-estimated 32 mpg
Stable and secure handling
User-friendly navigation system
Long warranty (as with all new Hyundais)
Cons:
Unimpressive acceleration with 1.8 liter engine models
Somewhat firm ride quality
Potentially tight headroom for taller occupants
Not a particularly engaging driving experience
No premium audio option
Sloping roof makes rearseat entry more difficult

Hyundai Sonata:
The 2015 Sonata is redesigned this year getting a more spacious cabin and an overall more upscale appearance. Also new is a fuel efficient Eco trim level boasting a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Already challenging top midsize sedan rivals such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry with its good looks, respectable road manners, abundant standard features and solid build quality, the newest version has taken still further strides with a cabin upgrade, additional features and chassis refinements. Yet the Sonata still remains very well priced in this segment and can expect to appeal to an even broader range of buyers.
Perhaps most dramatic this year, is the utter quietness of the ride. The new Sonata, no matter the trim, provides the kind of smooth and quiet ride one would expect in a more expensive vehicle.
Pros:
Solid build quality
Smooth and quiet ride
Affordable pricing with lots of standard features
Reasonably priced options
Roomy interior
Good gas mileage - base model approx. 25 city/37 hwy
Sleek, modern look
Premium interior with high-quality materials
Large 16.3 cubic foot trunk
Cons:
Unimpressive acceleration from the Sport 2.0T model
Headroom issues for taller passengers
Bland driving dynamics
Average power from base four-cylinder
No all-wheel-drive version
