Based on the same platform as the Ford Focus, the Escape also offers athletic road manners, passenger and cargo interior versatility, as well as a solid build quality. Widening its appeal is a choice of three different engines: the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder and two turbocharged four-cylinders, one which focuses on fuel economy while the other provides enhanced performance (with still very good mpg ratings).
There's also some impressive standard features, including a rearview camera, Ford's Sync voice-control system and an iPod interface. Be careful about adding too many options, however, as they can quickly escalate the price higher than some of its top rivals. But overall, the Escape is a very solid value for all it offers.
Pros:
Confident and agile handling
Comfortable seating - good for long trips
Good gas mileage
Attractive, sporty yet refined design
Good ride quality in poor conditions such as bumps or rough roads
Plenty of high-tech goodies
High quality interior
Cons:
Electronics interfaces can sometimes be finicky
Not a lot of storage cubbies
No available trailer hitch and low towing capacity
Rear headrests interfere with visibility (they are removable, however)
No side body mouldings available for ding and dent prevention

Ford Expedition:
Do you need lots of room, cargo space and towing ability? Well, the 2015 Expedition is a big and strong traditional SUV with three rows of seating, abundant storage room and heavy-duty towing capacity.
It was also given a major refresh this year including more modern looking front and rear exteriors. But more importantly, gone is the Expedition's V8 engine, having been replaced with a very robust turbocharged V6 that generates 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. That's actually more than the previous V8, while being more fuel efficient as well.
Also updated is the Expedition's suspension which is now offered with adjustable damping with three selectable drive modes: Comfort, Normal and Sport. The Expedition was already a fairly comfortable SUV, but this makes those long trips even moreso.
Pros:
Interior versatility enhanced with easy-folding rear seats
Spacious third row seat
Greater tow capacity than large crossover SUVs
Comfortable seating
Smooth drive
Very good driver visibility
Interior roominess
Excellent cargo space
Cons:
Large size can make it difficult in tighter spaces
Not very good on gas (16 city / 22 highway)
Some wind noise
Plastic front grille
No driver right arm rest
