Standard Features And Options:
The 2010 Chevrolet Malibu is a five-passenger sedan offered in four trims: LS, 1LT, 2LT and LTZ.
Standard features on the already well-equipped base LS includes 17 inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, automatic headlights, a tilt and telescoping steering column, power driver seat height and lumbar adjustment, OnStar and a 6-speaker sound system with a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio.
The 1LT model then adds the six-speed transmission as well as steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and color-keyed side mirrors and moldings.
The 2LT model comes with all of the above plus 17 inch chrome-clad alloy wheels, remote engine start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, premium faux-suede and vinyl upholstery, a 6-way power driver seat, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and Bluetooth.
The top-of-the-line LTZ model then adds 18 inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, 8-way driver and 6-way passenger power seats, heated side mirrors with driver-side auto-dimming, automatic climate control, upgraded gauges, LED taillights, and an 8-speaker stereo with a pair of subwoofers and a USB audio jack.
There are several option packages for the lower trims that include many of the features from the higher trims. There's also a Rear Power package that features a 110-volt AC outlet and a manual rear sunshade.
Engines, Powertrain And Gas Mileage:
The standard engine powering all 2010 Malibus is a 2.4 liter four-cylinder that produces 169 horsepower and 158 lb-feet of torque. It's mated with a four-speed automatic transmission on the LS and a six-speed automatic on all other models.
The EPA estimated gas mileage for the LS is 22 mpg city and 30 mpg on the highway. Gas mileage for the six-speed models comes in at 22 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.
Available as an option on the 2LT and LTZ models is a 3.6 liter V6 engine that delivers 252 horsepower and 251 pound-ft of torque. These models come with the six-speed automatic as well as paddle shifters. A Malibu with this engine goes from a standstill to 60 mph in just 6.7 seconds, making it one of the fastest in its class.
Gas mileage for the V6 is estimated at 17 mpg city and 26 highway.
Safety:
Standard safety features on all 2010 Malibu models include antilock disc brakes (ABS), traction control, stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and OnStar emergency telematics.
In government crash tests, the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu scored perfect five-star ratings across the board in all frontal-impact and side-impact categories for both driver and passenger protection.
Interior:
Within the cabin, the new Malibu is attractively designed, comfortable and user-friendly. While there is some leftover plastic here and there, the overall material quality is much improved over previous models and most definitely creates a more upscale ambiance.
And due to abundant sound insulation and acoustic-laminated front windows, the ride is impressively quiet. This, combined with excellent seat comfort and support, make the Malibu a great vehicle for handling long trips.
Drive:
The 2010 Chevy Malibu offers a very nice balance between handling and ride. Even while providing a smooth drive on fairly rough roads, steering and cornering remains confident. And while the four-cylinder engine provides enough power to satisfy most buyers, particularly with the six-speed automatic, the V6 provides plenty of extra pep that makes this car a lot of fun to drive.
