While the 2009 Range Rover is perhaps best noted for its impressive off-road abilities, its total package most definitely emphasizes both luxury and comfort as well. In fact, while there are a myriad of luxury SUVs today, there was a time when only one combined a go-anywhere attitude amid luxurious surroundings, and it was the Range Rover.
The 2009 Range Rover is more capable and luxurious than ever, maintaining a legacy of powerful performance, superior off-road abilities, a world-class interior, and all in a stylishly designed package (Land Rover was owned by BMW when the current model was designed).
All Range Rovers feature an air suspension that raises and lowers automatically (or through a switch on the console). Also available are adjustable powertrain, suspension and electronic systems with five different settings: general, grass/gravel/snow, mud/ruts, sand, and rock crawl.
The 2009 Rover Range Rover seats five passengers and is available in three trims: HSE, Supercharged and Sport (also offered in HSE and Supercharged forms).
Standard Features And Options:
Standard features on the Sport HSE include leather upholstery, sunroof, bi-xenon headlights, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, adjustable air suspension, front and rear parking sensors, power front seats, driver seat memory settings, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, 19 inch wheels, Bluetooth, navigation, and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon Logic 7 stereo with a 6-disc CD changer and an auxiliary jack.
Available options on the Sport include a Cold Climate package featuring a heated windshield, heated washer jets and heated front and rear seats. There's also a Luxury package that includes the cold climate package plus upgraded leather upholstery, a cooler box, adaptive headlights, and walnut trim.
Standard features on the Sport Supercharged model include everything on a Sport HSE with the Luxury package, plus 20 inch wheels, Brembo front brakes (both are options on the HSE), a unique grille and upholstery, the Dynamic Response suspension system, and satellite radio.
There's also a Limited Edition package that adds different 20 inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, exclusive leather upholstery, an extended rear roof spoiler, special front and rear bumpers, and a unique grille.
Stand-alone options include a number of wheel styles, rear differential lock, upgraded leather upholstery, and a rear entertainment system with front headrest-mounted LCD screens. In addition, adaptive cruise control is offered as an option on the Supercharged only.
The long list of standard features on the Range Rover HSE includes 19 inch wheels, the adjustable air suspension, rearview camera, heated windshield, bi-xenon headlights, sunroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, power front seats with driver memory, heated front and second-row seats, power tilt/telescoping steering column, heated steering wheel, Bluetooth, navigation with "bread crumb" off-road tracking, a 14-speaker surround-sound audio system, satellite radio, a glovebox-mounted 6-disc CD changer, and an auxiliary audio jack.
Standard features on the Range Rover Supercharged model include a supercharged V8 engine (more on this below), 20 inch wheels, an electronically locking rear differential, adaptive headlights, upgraded leather upholstery, additional front seat adjustments, ventilated front seats. All of these features, except the engine, are available options on the HSE.
Other available options for both trims are quad-zone automatic climate control and the rear entertainment system with a 6-disc DVD changer and two LCD screens in the front headrests.
The Autobiography package is available on the Range Rover Supercharged and adds higher-grade leather upholstery, additional leather interior trim, additional wood trim, the quad-zone climate control, special climate-controlled glass and the rear entertainment system.
Engines, Powertrain And Gas Mileage:
Powering the Range Rover Sport HSE is a 4.4 liter V8 engine that produces 300 horsepower and 315 pound-feet of torque. The Supercharged model is equipped with a blown 4.2 liter V8 that boosts the output to 390 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are matched with a a six-speed automatic transmission.
Powering the 2009 Range Rover HSE is a 4.4 liter V8 that delivers 305 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. The Supercharged's 4.2 liter V8 gets 400 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control.
Four-wheel-drive is standard on all Range Rover models, as is low-range gearing and almost 11 inches of maximum ground clearance. The maximum towing capacity for a properly equipped Range Rover is 7,700 pounds.
EPA gas mileage estimates for the HSE, Supercharged and Sport models are all 12 mpg city and 18 mpg on the highway.
Safety:
Standard safety features on the 2009 Range Rover Sport include antilock disc brakes (the Supercharged gets more powerful Brembo brakes), rollover-mitigating stability control, hill-descent control, front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
Standard on non-Sport Range Rovers are antilock disc brakes (again, Brembo brakes for the Supercharged), stability control, hill descent control, traction control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, front-seat whiplash protection, a driver knee airbag, front and rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.
